Getting through the Holidays

The holiday season is the time of year for sharing moments, and spending time with your friends and family. For some it is a happy and joyous time. However for others it can be a daunting experience. The holidays can bring up past traumas, losses, and other experiences that may be particularly difficult to face. Sometimes the holidays are a reminder of those difficult experiences. The holidays can also be seen as a stressful moment due to finances, several holiday parties, or even loneliness. However, there are ways to minimize the effect of the things above. Below are some tips to help you get through the holiday woes:

Self-Care: It is very imperative that you do the things that give you relaxation, make you feel good, make you happy, and healthy.

Exercise and Meditation: Exercise and meditation are very helpful. Exercise in particular releases endorphins which gives us the feeling of euphoria and happiness. Meditation calms the mind and keeps us grounded and centered among many other benefits.

Support: This is one of the most important things especially when you are going through a difficult time. Some people like to isolate themselves and deal with their pain on their own. Having supportive friends or family members.

Seek Professional Help: It is a strength to know and realize that you may need support from a therapist who can help you through difficult times.

Thinking of Positive Memories: This is particularly for those who have lost a loved one during the holidays or the first year without their loved one on the holiday. Think about the times you have shared together that bring back happy and loving memories to get you through the holiday.

Start New Traditions: Do something new for yourself and your family that you feel would be enjoyable.

A New Creation Psychotherapy Services wishes everyone happy holidays and a happy new year!!!! Make the start of 2019 amazing!!!
