Somatic Body Work & Breathwork for Healing Trauma
Talk alone doesn't always reach what the body remembers. Somatic body work and breathwork are body-centered approaches that help you recognize, release, and reorganize the stress, grief, and trauma that live below the level of words. At A New Creation Psychotherapy Services LLC, we integrate somatic practice, breathwork, and energy-based work (Chi) into a trauma-informed model that supports the whole person: body, mind, spirit, and emotional life. Sessions are available in person or at a distance.

What is Somatic Therapy?
Somatic therapy is a body-centered approach that explores how emotions are experienced and expressed within the body. It recognizes that our physical body holds our lived experiences, and that unresolved emotions or trauma can become stored within the nervous system.
Through this work, we bring awareness to bodily sensations, supporting the release of stored experiences and restoring a sense of balance, regulation, and connection.
Why the Body Belongs in Therapy
Our work is informed by the pioneering ideas of Wilhelm Reich, a psychoanalyst who observed that unexpressed emotion doesn't simply disappear. It settles into the body as chronic muscular tension, restricted breathing, and patterns of holding he called "body armor." Over time, this armoring protects us from feeling pain, but it also limits our capacity for joy, connection, and full aliveness.
Reich understood emotional health and physical vitality as inseparable. The same tightness that keeps old fear contained also keeps the breath shallow, the chest guarded, and the nervous system on alert. Somatic body work gently addresses those patterns so the body can complete what it once had to hold back.

The Importance of the Breath
The breath is the one place where the body and the mind meet in real time. It is automatic, yet we can change it on purpose, which makes it a direct doorway into the nervous system. When we're anxious or bracing against a memory, the breath becomes shallow and high in the chest. When we feel safe, it drops and deepens.
Breathwork uses this connection intentionally. Through guided breathing patterns, we help you shift out of survival states, access emotions that have been held down, and build the capacity to stay present with sensation rather than shut down. Many clients find that what they couldn't talk about begins to move once the breath does.
What a Session Looks Like
Somatic body work and breathwork sessions are collaborative and paced to your comfort. Together we may:
-
Track sensation, posture, and breathing patterns as they arise
-
Use guided breathwork to release held tension and regulate the nervous system
-
Integrate what surfaces so insight becomes lasting change
Nothing is forced. The goal is not catharsis for its own sake but a body that feels safer, more regulated, and more your own.

Emotional and Mental Wellness, Embodied
Mental wellness isn't only a matter of thinking differently. It's the ability to feel fully, recover from stress, and rest in your own body without bracing. When the body and breath are included in therapy, healing tends to go deeper and hold longer. This is the heart of our approach: a whole-person path back to regulation, connection, and life.
